Francis had become to himself like a vessel that is destroyed, and, burdoned by no fear or solicitude for his body, he most zealouysly subjected it to affronts, lest he be driven by love of his body to desire eagerly some temporal things. Despising himself in all truth, he taught others by his word and example to despise themselves.
