St. Francis was ablaze with fervid eagerness and he longed for the salvation of souls with heartfelt compassion. He used to say that it was like a sweet-smelling perfume to him or a soothing balm, when he heard that people were being converted to the way of truth as a result of the good name holy friars had won for themselves all over the world.
