Preaching Penitence And Evangelical Perfection

Benozzo Gozzoli frescoed the apse of the Franciscan church
(San Francesco) in
Montefalco, Umbria
with the
Life of Saint Francis between 1450 and 1452.

Francis set his whole heart and mind on how he could best carry out the words of grace that he had heard, and, divinely inspired, he began to speak in public very simply of penitence and the life of evangelical perfection. His words were not met with ridicule, neither were they spoken in vain; for they possessed the strength of the Holy spirit and went straight to the hearts of the listeners rousing them to vehement astonishment.
