Francis recited the Canonical Hours no less reverently than devoutly. For though he suffered from infirmity of the eyes, stomach, spleen, and liver, he did not want to lean against a wall or a partition when he chanted, but always said the hours standing erect and without a capuche, without letting his eyes roam about and without interruption.
