Begging: Servile Work Serves As A Good Example

Blessed Francis often said that no brother should spend a long time without going out to beg. The more noble and great a brother was in the world the more the holy father was delighted and edified to see him go on the quest and perform servile work to give good example.

    Hello,

    In Brighton, a lot of people get arrested and jailed for begging and put on ASBOs. In Assisi itself, begging is now illegal. I like your blog very much and thank you for the daily franciscan nuggets.

    Yes, begging is now illegal in almost every municipality throughout the world. Some Franciscan friars actually carry a $10.00 bill in their pockets in the event they are approached by local authorities in order to prove they're not indgent.
