The Portiuncula Chapel located on the campus of the
Franciscan University of Steubenville
The Abbot of St. Benedict of Mount Subasio, moved with pity, took counsel with his brothers. God having so decided, they gave blessed Francis and his brothers the church of St. Mary of the Portiuncula, the poorest church they owned. No poorer church could be found in the whole territory of the city of Assisi. This is what blessed Francis had long desired.
