Saint Charbel Miracle

An Italian woman from Australia heard of Saint Charbel Makhlouf in Lebanon and decided she wanted to go with her Lebanese friend and son to visit his shrine, as she was suffering from cancer. She arrived in Lebanon and went to the church only to discover that everything was closed. As she and her son walked back to the car a priest was walking by. The woman asked if the church was open and he answered “How can I help you?” She explained that she had come from Australia, was suffering from terminal cancer and just wanted to receive a blessing from the priest. The priest said to her that he would give her a blessing now. She asked her son to take a picture when the priest blessed her. She thanked the priest, got back in the car and left. As they were driving back to the hotel, she, with her Lebanese friend, went through the photos on her phone, and suddenly realised that the priest in the picture was actually St Charbel himself! She got back to Australia, went to the hospital and tests confirmed that she no longer had cancer. The miracle has been documented.

The Heart's Innocence

Photo of Fra Chris in front of the Portiuncula Hermitage in Jerusalem, Ohio holding "Sorello Chiara," (Sister Clair)

"Since spiritual joy springs from the heart's innocence and the purity of incessant prayer, these are the two virtues we need to acquire and keep."

His Most Holy Body And Blood, Living And True

Now as Jesus Christ appeared to his holy Apostles in true flesh, so now he shows himself to us in consecrated bread; and as with their physical sight they saw only his flesh, but contemplating him with the eyes of faith, believed that he was God, so too, now, though we see bread and wine with the eyes of our body, we should see and firmly believe that it is his Most Holy Body and Blood, living and true.

Where Did The Franciscan Coat Of Arms Originate?

If you go to any of our Franciscan friaries, churches, or convents, you will almost always find the Franciscan Coat of Arms hanging on a wall or visible over a doorway. This holds true around the world as well as through the centuries. The Franciscan Coat of Arms often consists of a cross with two arms crossing each other—with a cross in the background. One arm is that of Christ; the other is that of St. Francis of Assisi. This image is a key identification badge for those who consider themselves followers of St. Francis.

This Franciscan Coat of Arms is an image worthy of our contemplation. The image is a true expression of both Jesus’ and Francis’ fervent style of love. We see in Jesus’ crucified hand, first of all, God’s incredible love for us. In Francis’ wounded hand, in turn, we see the loving response of St. Francis to the burning love of God, who first loved us.

This is indeed something to ponder. All in all, the Franciscan Coat of Arms is a wonderful expression of the Franciscan (or Seraphic) style of love. Though few of us live up to this ideal, it calls us to something rare and splendid!

This is how St. Francis of Assisi prayed, and where the Franciscans came up with the idea of his praying posture to be our Coat of Arms.

The monks love coffee from its growth, drying process to its roast and taste in the cup. Every step adds to the taste of the beans in your cup and the monks find this a delightful past time that compliments their monastery.

The monks hope to add a new chapter in the history of coffee. It is a well known fact that monks discovered the great use of the coffee beans as a delicious drink that helps a sleepy monk. Learn more about the discovery of coffee by Catholic monks here: monks discover coffee

How do monks know anything about roasting coffee? Monks are perfectionists in all their labors. Monks also love everything natural and earthy because it is very contemplative and recalls God's works to them.

Monks have always been the backbone of Catholic culture. In America ever since the revolution, coffee also has been the backbone of American society. This is why coffee and Catholic monks go hand in hand. The Carmelite Monks know that coffee is so integral to our modern society and see it as a great opportunity to give people everywhere a chance to have a unique relationship with monks. The uniting of coffee and Catholic monks is a perfect combination.
