Rev. Roy Bourgeois, the Fort Benning protester, faces excommunication by Vatican

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Rev. Roy Bourgeois, the Maryknoll brother who has led protests down at Fort Benning for decades, has let it be known that he stands to be excommunicated by the Vatican for his support of the ordination of women.

Blog for Democracy gets the hat tip. And here’s the article from the National Catholic Reporter.

Bourgeois, now 70, began his protests against the School of the Americas, an Army training school he blamed for human rights abuses in Latin America, in 1989. The institution was closed. In its place, the Pentagon opened the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security and Cooperation in 2001.

Bourgeois has continued his opposition. The last major demonstration occurred two years ago, attracting an estimated 10,000 protesters.

  1. I'll leave the religious conflict to the Catholic Church, that's not my fight. I will say that Father Roy has been misleading the flock for a long time, using the concept that any association with the Army's School of the Americas is proof that it had something to do with later crimes. Saying such with no evidence is a moral libel of the loyal, patriotic Soldiers who taught there. And there is no evidence--not one example of anyone using what he learned at the school to commit a crime has ever been found! Proof that SOAW's goal was not the closure of the school came when President Clinton and Congress passed the law that created the institute and closed the school. Instead of declaring victory and going on to other issues, SOAW decided they really didn't like US foreign policy in the region and used WHINSEC as the symbol of that policy. Trouble is, the policy they didn't like went away before the school did. Now, every country WHINSEC has students and instructors from has elected civilian leadership. The military and police aren't out oppressing people; they are fighting the drugs, crime, and other challenges that hurt people. As always, I say come see for yourself. Sit in our classes, talk with our students and faculty, review our instructional materials. You will be proud of our contributions to the US and our partners in the hemisphere.
    Sincerely,

    Hi, Lee!

Good to hear from you again, my friend...

You are absolutely correct in what you say. Were it not for those who have been willing to fight and even die to preserve the freedoms that the "Lunatic Fringe" enjoys here in America Do they honestly believe they could get away with it in their Marxist/Leninist Communist Government they want so badly?

    Really, really sad....
