Rise Up!

St. Francis used to say: "If you, O servant of God, are upset, for any reason whatever, you should immediately rise up to prayer, and you should remain in the presence of the Most High Father for as long as it takes for him to restore to you the joy of your salvation.

  1. This is a very powerful means of not allowing our unruly emotions to overtake us, but it requires a lot of practice and self-discipline until it becomes just a natural thing to turn immediately to the Lord.

  2. Yes, gabrielle, an awful lot of practice...Anger is a very human emotion (respose). No one is without it. As you say, it's how we learn to control it that makes the difference. The sooner we are able to recognize it and expunge it from our souls, the closer we draw to Jesus. And only Jesus can take anger from our hearts by filling us with his love because love and anger cannot exist together.
